Transformed According to His Will

God wants to do something in our lives that is truly remarkable. He wants us to be transformed from what we used to be to what we ought to be as children of God.
Paul wrote about it in Romans 12:1-2. The King James Version says, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
The New King James Version leaves out the word “ye.” Instead of “Be ye transformed,” it says, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” I like this because I think it helps to clarify that godly transformation is not solely our work. God is the One who has the power to do this incredible thing in your life; you would never be able to do it on your own.
I also like the way this passage is rendered in the New Living Translation: “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
God has a great desire to bring about a genuine metamorphosis in your life. He doesn’t want to just change you a little; He wants to transform you into a whole new person. And notice He’s not just looking to change your outward actions, but He wants to do a complete renovation on the inside, to fully renew your mind, to give you a new heart devoted to doing what is good for you and pleasing to Him.
Paul wrote about our dramatic transformation in 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
So what about you? As much as God desires to work in your life to change you for the better, you have to be willing and cooperative in the process, I urge you to surrender your will to God’s will. Let Him be fully in control of your life. Remember Jesus came so that you might have life, and that you might have it more abundantly (John 10:10). His way really is the best way!
