God is in Control

… of every event in your life, so do not be afraid. Someone once said, “Sometimes the Lord calms the storm. Sometimes He lets the storm rage and calms His child.” Sometimes God will rescue you from your overwhelming circumstances in order to alleviate your fears. But He will also sometimes leave you right where you are in your adverse situations because He wants to work in your life to bring about His desired will for you. In Isaiah 41:10, God says, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
… of prolonged waiting. Isaiah 64:3-4 says, “When Thou didst awesome things which we did not expect, Thou didst come down, the mountains quaked at Thy presence. For from of old they have not heard nor perceived by ear, neither has the eye seen a God besides Thee, who acts in behalf of the one who waits for Him.” How many stories are there of husbands/wives waiting for his/her spouse to become a Christian? Or stories about loved ones coming back to the Lord and the church after many years being away? God does awesome things which we do not always expect, and He lovingly acts on behalf of those who wait in faith for Him.
… of broken hope. We will be disappointed so many times in so many ways, but do not give up hope in God. Just because it looks like God is not going to go along with the plan that you had for yourself, that doesn’t mean that He’s forsaken you. It usually just means that He has a different plan. Don’t put your hope in your own plan. The plans you and I come up with aren’t always the best plans. Put your hope in God and in His plan for your life. Psalm 33:18-20 says, “Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope for His lovingkindness, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield.”
… of grievous setbacks. In 1 Peter 1:6-7, Peter speaks of our inheritance to come and says, “In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” There are many chapters in your life. Not all are going to be exactly as you might desire, but keep trusting in God! He knows the next chapter just as He knows what’s on the other side of the valley of the shadow of death. He will see you through.
