Heal the Brokenhearted

Early in His ministry, Jesus went to the synagogue in Nazareth on the Sabbath. When He stood up to read, He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah, and this is what He read: “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives, and freedom to them that are bound” (Isaiah 61:1).
The passage He read was about Him! He was the Messiah about whom the prophet Isaiah wrote. When Jesus said, “He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,” He was referring to Himself. Part of what God sent Him to do was to help those who are hurting and grieving.
Do you think Jesus is able do what He is sent to do? In case you don’t, take your Bible and see how many people you can find who were sent by God to do something, and yet they were unable to do it. No matter how great the work or how hard the task, when someone was sent by God to do a job, he was sure to succeed!
Moses was sent by God to Egypt to stand before Pharaoh and deliver 3 million people out of bondage. He didn’t think he could do the job, but he did. Joshua was sent by God to conquer the city of Jericho by the most unlikely means. They did nothing more than march and shout as God had instructed, but it worked. Gideon was sent by God to defeat the Midianites with only 300 men. They did nothing more than blow their trumpets and break their pitchers as God had instructed, and it worked. Jonah was sent by God to preach to the people of Nineveh. He was actually determined not to do what God sent him to do, but the job was done anyway.
Now, do you think for a moment that Jesus is going to fail to do something that God sent Him to do? If all these other men sent by God succeeded in doing their work, do you think the Son of God is going to fail? Do you think, if Jesus was sent to help and heal those who are hurting and grieving, that He is going to be unable to do that?
All of us at one time or another will face sorrow and grief. In fact, it may even be where you are in your life right now. But know this: There is not a sorrow or a grief or a situation so terrible that the Lord cannot fix. He has all the power you need so that you can overcome your grief! Whatever your sorrow, take it to the Lord in prayer, and He will lift you up.
