Covering Your Sin

A man purchased a white mouse to use as food for his pet snake. He dropped the unsuspecting mouse into the snake’s glass cage where the snake was sleeping in a bed of sawdust. The tiny mouse had a serious problem on his hands. At any moment he could be swallowed alive. Obviously the mouse needed to come up with a brilliant plan.
What did the terrified creature do? He quickly set up work covering the snake with sawdust chips until it was completely buried. With that, the mouse apparently thought he had solved his problem. He couldn’t see the snake, so it must not be there.
We might foolishly think we can fix our problem with sin by covering it up and ignoring it. But no matter how hard we try to cover up our sin, or pretend that it’s not really a problem, we’re just fooling ourselves. Just like that snake, sin is still there. It will eventually awake from sleep, shake off its cover, and then attack!
The Bible says we all have a problem with sin. Furthermore, there’s no way we could ever fix our sin problem on our own. Were it not for the saving grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, sin would indeed eat us alive. Consider these 3 passages...
Hebrews 2:14-15 “Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.”
1 Corinthians 15:56-57 “The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Ephesians 1:6-7 (NLT) “So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.”
Our freedom from sin was not free. A terrible price had to be paid for the guilt of our sin. Praise God for His abundant love in the giving of His one and only Son, that brave young man on the battlefield 2000 years ago, as He laid down His life and shed His blood so that you and I could truly be free.
