Let Your Light Shine
Perhaps you've heard about the little boy who was playing the part of Jesus in a VBS skit. Unfortunately, there came a time in the play that he forgot his next line. He got all flustered, and then he looked over at his mother hoping somehow she could help. Sure enough, she mouthed the words silently, but it didn’t help. He just couldn’t figure it out. So finally the mom leaned forward and whispered what he was supposed to say, “I am the light of the world.” The boy then beamed, and with great feeling and a loud clear voice he said to the audience, “My mother is the light of the world.”
It was in John 9:5 that Jesus declared, “I am the light of the world.” But I think it is also quite appropriate for a good and godly mother to be recognized as the light of the world. Because she is when she reflects the light of Christ in her life.
And the same is true for every one of us. In Matthew 5:16, Jesus said, “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” As Paul wrote about in Philippians 2:15, all of us, mothers, fathers, children of God, all of us are to “appear as lights in the world.” We all need to be letting others see Christ living in us.
Please remember, the way you live your life is going to have an influence on other people. Chances are there are going to be people who try to walk in your footsteps. Which makes it extremely important that you take great care in deciding whose footsteps you’re going to follow. Let your light shine so that others will see the way to the Lord.
