Peace in the Lord
Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid” (John 14:27).
What kind of peace is this? This is the peace of Jesus, where your heart isn’t troubled, and you are not afraid. It’s not like the world’s peace because the world’s peace is based upon your circumstances. If your life is going badly, then you’ll be sad or angry. If things are going well, only then will you be pleased. That’s the peace the world knows.
But the peace from Jesus is different. This peace is a promise from God of His peace in spite of your circumstances. Paul called it, “the peace which surpasses all comprehension” (Phil 4:7). It doesn’t make any sense to the world. It’s this kind of peace that God wants you to have. It’s the kind that fully trusts God, the kind that believes, “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength” (Phil 4:13), and the kind that believes, “My God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Phil 4:19).
What can you expect from this kind of peace? With the peace that comes from the Lord, you won’t stumble through life. As we’re told in Psalms 119:165, “Those who love Thy law have great peace, and nothing causes them to stumble.” Love and live by God’s will, and you will have God’s perfect peace. You’ll be surefooted and secure, you’ll be able to sleep at night, and you won’t fear when you wake up and face the new day.
How do you get this peace? Isaiah 26:1-3 says, “In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; He sets up walls and ramparts for security. Open the gates, that the righteous nation may enter, the one that remains faithful. The steadfast of mind Thou wilt keep in perfect peace, because he trusts in Thee.” This is a beautiful picture of a peaceful life that comes from faithfully being within the city of God.
Do you want peace today? It is found in a faithful walk with God through His Son Jesus Christ.
